Public health vaccinating students at school

Greene County public health is holding school-based Covid-19 vaccine clinics Wednesday and Friday this week.

The Pfizer vaccine, which has been approved by the CDC for use in youngsters age 12-15, will be offered to students age 12 and older. Clinics are scheduled:

  • Wednesday, May 19, from 10 am to 2 pm at Greene County high school and Greene County middle school
  • Friday, May 21, from 10 am to 2 pm at Paton-Churdan (high school students can be vaccinated at Greene County)

“We encourage all parents to consider getting their student(s) protected and prevent further spread to other,” Greene County public health director Becky Wolf said.

Wolf reported that as of May 17, the 14-day positivity rate for Covid testing in the county was 1.9 percent. There are currently 107 active cases of Covid and a total of 865 cases in the county.

She also reported that 39.2 percent of all Greene County residents are fully vaccinated. Among those age 65 and older, 78 percent are fully vaccinated.

Latest COVID-19 updates:

  • If you are fully vaccinated, you can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except when requires by local businesses or workplace guidance
  • If you travel, take steps to protect yourself and others. Masks are still required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation
  • Watch for symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you’ve been around someone who is sick. If you have symptoms, get tested AND stay home, away from others
  • Vaccines are effective at preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness and death
  • Vaccines reduce the risk of spreading the virus to others

As of 5/14/21: Revised COVID-19 guidance for school and child care settings:

  • Quarantine changes: While children who test positive for COVID-19 and are symptomatic should be excluded from school or child care, exposed children are no longer required to stay home, regardless of mask usage. With information regarding the exposure, parents can make informed decisions regarding risk and wearing of masks
  • Keep in mind, kids under 12 years of age are not able to be vaccinated yet. We need to continue prevention efforts to protect them!
